Still Had All These Goes Drafting – #1 (The Draft)
Time to hop into the Zendikar 8-4 queues and test the waters! This ought to be amusing.

Pack 1 pick 1:

Marsh Casualties vs. the field. First picks should be this good and this easy all the time.
Pack 1 pick 2:
Trapmaker’s Snare, Mountain, Caravan Hurda, Bala Ged Thief, Steppe Lynx, Guul Draz Vampire, Cobra Trap, Nissa’s Chosen, Turntimber Grove, Expedition Map, Quest for the Holy Relic, Tuktuk Grunts, Narrow Escape, Goblin Shortcutter
This one isn’t as much a blowout. There’s cases to be made for Guul Draz Vampire and Goblin Shortcutter, but both those cards favor an aggressive deck, one I already blow out with my first pick. Bala Ged Thief can help me beat slower decks by stripping their hand of relevant cards.
Pack 1 pick 3:
Oran-Rief Survivalist, Turntimber Basilisk, Kabira Crossroads, Mold Shambler, Trailblazer’s Boots, Disfigure, Spire Barrage, Highland Berserker, Kor Skyfisher, Plains, Bloodchief Ascension, Expedition Map, Whiplash Trap
I could have gone with any of the two drop creatures here or Bloodchief Ascension. Of the four cards I didn’t take, I like Survivalist the most, and Skyfisher is the hardest for me to deal with.
Pack 1 pick 4:
Grim Discovery, Cancel, Plains, Pillarfield Ox, Beast Hunt, Kor Aeronaut, Landbind Ritual, Primal Bellow, Ruinous Minotaur, Stonework Puma, Demolish, Noble Vestige
This could have been Kor Aeronaut, but going with a double-white card here after passing Lynx and Skyfisher would have been suicide for my draft.
Pack 1 pick 5:
Grim Discovery, Shoal Serpent, Spidersilk Net, Kor Outfitter, Baloth Cage Trap, Spell Pierce, Brave the Elements, Bog Tatters, Sunspring Expedition, Goblin Ruinblaster, Swamp
I hadn’t picked a second color yet, and haste is good. This could have been the ersatz Beast Attack (and probably should have been in hindsight).
Pack 1 pick 6:
Blood Seeker, Carnage Altar (FOIL), Nissa’s Chosen, Quest for Pure Flame, Kor Sanctifiers, Crypt Ripper, Ondu Cleric, Narrow Escape, Forest, Spreading Seas
Haste is still good, and the only other playables at this point are a hard to cast Nissa’s Chosen and Kor Sanctifiers, and I was still determined to avoid the fight over plains.
Pack 1 pick 7:
Ondu Cleric, Hagra Crocodile, Carnage Altar, Spreading Seas, Swamp, Hagra Diabolist, Hedron Scrabbler, Savage Silhouette, Seismic Shudder
Ally, check. Strong effect, check. Black, check. Only other choices here are the two Landfall critters, neither of which I like as much as the Diabolist.
Pack 1 pick 8:

The Bard is a really strong defensive creature and that combined with his creature type put him in my pile. This could have been Soul Stair Expedition.
The Rest of Pack 1:
Vampire’s Bite, Turntimber Grove, Whiplash Trap, Plains, Swamp, Forest, Swamp
Vampire’s Bite might make the cut. The rest won’t, though. Maybe one of those lands should have been a real card (Spell Pierce?). Maybe. I think there’s value in letting the person next to you know that you’d rather not play around in a color.
Pack 2 pick 1:
Gatekeeper of Malakir, Desecrated Earth, Steppe Lynx, Kraken Hatchling, Forest, Seismic Shudder, Turntimber Grove, Umara Raptor, Gigantiform, Caravan Hurda, Makindi Shieldmate, Vampire Lacerator, Torch Slinger, Æther Figment, Ravenous Trap
I took the card that wins games over Gatekeeper, Lacerator, and Umara Raptor. I’m not aggressive enough for the Lacerator, and my only blue card to this point was Whiplash Trap. I chose the bomb over the removal.
Pack 2 pick 2:

Nice Allies. With Crypt Ripper and Marsh Casualties in the stack, I didn’t want to commit to a double-red card, so I took the green Ally. He’s pretty good too.

Sucks to ship along a Mosquito, but Hideous End will console me.
Pack 2 pick 4:

I was still toying around with the thought of being three-color Allies here, but if I’m going to do that, Shieldmate should have been the pick. In reality, Blood Seeker is the most likely card I’d play out of this pack, and I don’t like him that much.
Pack 2 pick 5:
Giant Scorpion, Savage Silhouette, Adventuring Gear, Sejiri Refuge, Mountain, Reckless Scholar, Caller of Gales, Nissa’s Chosen, Cliff Threader, Cosi’s Trickster, Goblin War Paint
I’m not the landfall deck, and Nissa’s Chosen is too hard for me to cast. Rock me like a hurricane, Scorpion.
Pack 2 pick 6:
Molten Ravager, Spidersilk Net, Soul Stair Expedition, Lullmage Mentor, Blazing Torch, Khalni Heart Expedition, Mire Blight, Welkin Tern, Tempest Owl, Island
This could (should?) have been Blazing Torch. I figured I’d have enough removal that the Torch wouldn’t make the cut and Soul Stair was definitely making the cut in my creature light, Ally heavy deck.
Pack 2 pick 7:

I’m really not cold at all to Bog Tatters with a Casualties and Disfigure already. Vines can be removal or counterspell.

Pack 2 started out really well and solidified me in my second color, but I needed a couple more Allies and a few more playables in general.

Oog. Not the pack the green/black drafter wants to open. Other options are Recluse, Berserker, and cutting Shepherd or Journey.
Pack 3 pick 2:
Nimana Sell-Sword, Trusty Machete, Seismic Shudder, Turntimber Grove, Tajuru Archer, Kor Skyfisher, Mind Sludge, Whiplash Trap, Piranha Marsh, Swamp, Vastwood Gorger, Desecrated Earth, Bladetusk Boar, Kraken Hatchling
Two Allies! Mind Sludge! Big Knife! This pack is deep, but not deep enough for me to wheel one of the three cards I want out of it. There’s an argument for Sell-Sword or Mind Sludge. Much less so for Tajuru Archer. But Big Knife is Big Knife.
Pack 3 pick 3:
Plains, Mindless Null, Sunspring Expedition, Demolish, Needlebite Trap, Joraga Bard, Hellfire Mongrel, Summoning Trap, Shatterskull Giant, Cancel, Noble Vestige, Into the Roil, Hideous End
That’s a good card to double up on.

That’s a better card to double up on. Can I get the Pumas and Scorps to show up in other packs?

Two Allies of the wrong color and two four-drops. Shambler’s obviously better as I have no way to make Crocodile into a fireball.

This could have been Living Tsunami if I was vindictive, but I needed playables for my deck.

I like this guy a lot. He blocks forever and the vigilance in some Ally decks is relevant. This isn’t going to be that deck, though.

I’m not excited about Cobra Trap, and I can’t get around all these walls.
